Prof. Oscar Yoshihiro has served as head Coach of UP Varsity Table Tennis Team (9 time –UAAP Champions) and Vice-President of many organizations such as Sport Management Council of the Philippines, Sport Science and Physical Educators of the Philippines. Formerly he had been No. 1 National Player and National Coach and veteran of many international competitions (SEA Games, Asian and World Championships) 3-time MVP, UAAP; 1980-82.

The purpose of the study is to scientifically develop and translate the CRSTTA into Japanese version and consequently design a comprehensive training program using the instrument based on the following factors affecting the competitive readiness of a table tennis athlete: 1) Mental toughness 2) Coachability 3) Physical Readiness 4) Tactical Readiness 5) Attention and Concentration 6) Anxiety Management 7) Self-confidence 8) Motivation and 9) Team Sociability, Since the researchers have already established the reliability and validity of the Competitive Readiness Scale for Table Tennis Athletes (CRSTTA) in the English version, this research indicates that the instrument will have to be translated in Japanese using the forward and backward translation process to be able to come up with a final version of the CRSTTA in Japanese. This will then be administered to collegiate table tennis athletes using cluster sampling or stratified random sampling. A two-week test-retest reliability is suggested to establish the internal consistency of the Japanese version.  Factorial, concurrent, convergent validity and norming will also be established.  Once the reliability and validity of the scale is established, then the actual research study will commence. This will use the true experimental pre and post-test control group design or a quasi-experimental design for a year round program. A time series is also suggested for a single group and a longer program. An initial data will be analyzed to determine the strengths and the weaknesses of the subjects which will be a basis for designing a comprehensive training program covering the different factors. After every quarter, the instrument will again be administered to determine if there are significant differences between: 1) the pre and post-test of the experimental group 2) pre and post-test of the control group and 3) post test results of experimental and control group at 0.05 level of significance. This is if the true experimental design will be used. If the quasi experimental design is used, then significant differences between each tests will be determined. With these results, then the training program will be further improved in order to prepare the Japanese National Team to international competitions such as the World Championships, World Cup, Asian Games, Asian Championships and ultimately the Olympic Games in 2020 where Japan will be the host nation.
