Dr. Kawakami is a professor at the Faculty of Sport Sciences, Waseda University. His expertise is in the field of biomechanics and biodynamics, with the main research interest in the area of skeletal muscle mechanics, particularly on the relationship between in vivo neuromuscular behavior and movement/sport performance of humans. Effects of training, growth, aging, and fatigue on human muscles are also in the scope of his research.
Muscle size, strength and locomotor ability of the elderly in Japan: assessment and intervention
Our recent studies on the size and force-producing characteristics of the lower limb muscles and their relevance to the locomotor ability of the elderly in Japan will be introduced. Also, our current approach to the releationship between daily lifestyles (e.g., morningness & eveningness, exercise and dietary habits) and body shape / composition of the Japanese at large using a custom-made smartphone application will be introduced.
