Dear colleagues and fellow participants,

We are delighted to have you here at the 8th Asia-Pacific Conference on Exercise and Sports Science 2017, or the 8th APCESS 2017, in Bangkok, Thailand. This conference will take place from 14 – 16 June 2017 in Twin Tower hotel, located in downtown Bangkok. Isn’t it amazing that we have been organizing such a biannual meeting like this for 8 times now! Almost twenty years of sharing, collaborating, and friendship. I am very glad to see us going stronger as time goes by. What a chance to reunite with long-time friends, to get re-acquainted with long-lost friends, and to get to make new friends!

The fact that many of you come from various distant places around the world serves to remind us of how important this gathering is. This year’s APCESS conference is held jointly with the 7th International Conference on Sport and Exercise Science, or the 7th ICSES, which Kasetsart University host s on behalf of the Consortium of Sports Science and Physical Education Deans. So, it becomes doubly significant in its own right.

The conference’s theme is “Innovation and Healthy living for sustainability”, it will broadly cover various disciplines of sports science, health promotion and sports management from fundamental research to real world applications for society sustainability, highlight global interactions and interdisciplinary collaborations among sports scientist, health and sport industry experts.

We are honored to have outstanding speakers from around the world. These remarkable individuals are going to shed light on some selected novel topics drawn from their life-long work and experience involving health, wellness and sustainable living through sport, exercise, innovation, management, and technology.

It is such a pride to get to host this conference in my home country --- Thailand, which is also known as the land of smiles. Specially, welcome all of you to the fabulous city of Bangkok, which is also known as the land of angels. It has also been awarded as the most visited city of the world. This metropolitan has so more wonders to offer than you might have thought --- such as the world-renowned Thai cuisine, the spectacular sites of Buddhist temples, the historic architectures, the tropical climate, to name a few. You can take a short flight from Bangkok to some of the world’s best beaches located in the south of Thailand for example Koh Phi Phi, Koh Lipe, Koh Kradan. Hope you will get a chance to experience them all.

I want to say once more on behalf of the organizing committee, “Welcome.” Hope this scholarly gathering will keep you intellectually intrigued and inspired. Thank you all for coming.
